It’s actually quite cute, the way Xavier lies in this grave.
Actually, Xavier’s cuteness skyrockets exponentially whenever he gives himself space to recline proper, along sofas or beds or during morbid photoshoots. Gaspard only notices during the latter, because relaxing in that sort of environment is nothing short of a feat. Much about Xavier is tightly wound up or excitable, and while that’s not a bad thing, Gaspard loves his serenity best.
Gaspard puts down the proofs and swivels on his chair. Xavier lies there, hands folded on his chest, mercifully the opposite of dead. He’s frowning like he gave up mid-thought and went to sleep, which is a very Xavier thing to do, and it makes Gaspard laugh - even though it was only a shallow sleep, and he ends up waking his partner instead. "The hell are you laughing at?“ He murmurs, grinning, once he’s reacquainted himself with the surroundings.
Gaspard moves closer. "Thinking about how cute you are.”
“That’s news?”
“In those, I mean,” Gaspard points to the photos. “what kind of business is that, posing while you’re meant to be six feet under. For sure you can’t go wrong with the chillest, most relaxed Xavier in the world; the problem is getting there in the first place.”
Xavier smirks, eyes hooded. “You say that like you want me to put up a fight.”
“I shall spare you,” Gaspard counters without losing a beat, smiling teasingly. “no need to fight if there’s nobody to fight with.”
“Sematics, schemantics. What d'you take me for? That I’ve so little self-control that the second you scoot in here, I’ll be on you with claws and teeth bared?” Xavier pulls up the upper right corner of the duvet. “Speaking of which, scoot in here, will you? I’m getting cold.”
Gaspard humours him. Xavier fits so well against the hollows of his body. “That’s not so far from what you did the last time you pinned me down in bed,” he pulls aside his sweater and shows off the fading bruise on his shoulder, which Xavier appreciates with a voluptuous moan. “showers stung for days afterwards. Hellcat, you.”
“Now let’s not dwell on the past. I could do with a backrub, if you want your Xavier super docile tonight; make it up to you.”
It’s seldom that Xavier makes such a generous offer. Gaspard pats his back. “Roll over.”
The moment he does, he presses soft kisses along the nape of Xavier’s neck until the other man is squirming with laughter, cheeks flushed and hair so mussed that it’d put Gaspard’s to shame. It’s not merely cute, it’s adorable; photoshoots and work aside, this is the best state for them to be in.
